Guadalajara, Mexico Guadalajara is the capital of the state of Jalisco in Mexico. The city is home to approximately 1.5 million inhabitants and almost 4,5 millions in its agglomeration. It was founded in 1542 by Spanish conquistador. The city's architecture reflects this blend, featuring stunning colonial buildings, such as the Guadalajara Cathedral with its neo-Gothic towers and the Teatro Degollado, known for its neoclassical style. The Mercado San Juan de Dios, or Mercado Libertad, is one of the largest indoor markets in Latin America. Guadalajara is also home to the iconic Estadio Akron, a modern stadium with a capacity of 46,232. Opened in 2010, it is the home ground for Club Deportivo Guadalajara, known as Chivas, one of Mexico's most popular football teams.
